Crowns & Bridges

Crowns & Bridges

Crowns

A crown (or cap) is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape. A crown is used to protect and strengthen tooth structure when the tooth cannot be restored with fillings. Crowns may also be used when repairing a broken or fractured tooth, a significantly decayed tooth or a tooth that has had a root canal.

Traditionally, the most common method of crowning a tooth involves making a dental impression of the tooth and creating a temporary crown. The impression is then sent to a laboratory to be fabricated into a permanent crown. The permanent crown will then then be inserted at a subsequent dental appointment.

At Triple Cities Family Dental we also have the capability of utilizing state-of-the-art technology to do things significantly differently. We can take digital pictures to fabricate and install a CEREC crown in our office in just one appointment.

Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance used to replace missing teeth in order to restore a patient's chewing ability and to improve their smile.

Bridges consist of crowns that cover the teeth on each side of the space being filled. Connected to them is a false crown which fills in the gap.

Bridges can be made of porcelain fused to metal or a solid ceramic material. When cemented into place, they become a fixed part of your mouth.
