Composite - Tooth-colored Fillings

Today, more patients are asking us about white fillings because they want their teeth to look natural when they laugh, talk and smile. White fillings, also called composite fillings, are made from tooth-colored plastic composite that restore the natural appearance of decayed or previously filled teeth.

Advantages of composite fillings:

  • Almost invisible - the composite is the same color as your teeth.
  • They make teeth stronger - because they bond to enamel, they can restore the tooth to 75% of it's original strength.
  • They are minimally invasive - most of the time, much less of the tooth needs to be drilled away.

Amalgam Fillings

Used by dentists for more than a century, dental amalgam is the most thoroughly researched and tested restorative material in use today. It is safe, durable, easy to use and relatively inexpensive in comparison to other materials. For these reasons, it remains a valuable treatment option for dentists and their patients.

Because amalgam fillings can withstand very high chewing forces, they are particularly useful for restoring molars in the back of the mouth, where chewing forces are the greatest.
