The VELscope is a revolutionary new instrument that provides the team at Triple Cities Family Dental with an easy-to-use hand held device to quickly screen for oral cancer or potentially pre-cancerous tissue.

Oral cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer. During the early stages of the disease there are no outward signs or symptoms. Many times it is not detected until it has progressed to other parts of the body.

The exam takes only a few minutes and is completely free of any pain or inconvenience. The VELscope© shines a safe, blue light into the oral cavity which makes natural tissue fluoresce. When viewed by the doctor through the VELscope’s filters, abnormal, cancerous tissue typically appears as an irregular, dark area that stands out against the normal, green pattern of surrounding healthy tissue.
